Hollywood movies are big business in Thailand, and not just for the roadside bootleg hawkers.
But before these foreign films hit the Bangkok big screen, they need to be adapted for the Thai palate. (Never have I felt more pity for these heroic translators than when I tried watching the Thai dubbed version of "Napoleon Dynamite.")It’s no surprise, then, that this Thai-style makeover extends right down to the movie title.
Thai titles for Western films can be corny, hyperbolic or outright plot-spoilers, but they’re nothing if not entertaining. At least when you translate them word-for-word into English.
